Since I left the keys in the apartment today, it’s now officially safe to say that this was the view from the front steps of my building. That’s right. Across the street! The odd thing is, living so close to a landmark I would sometimes forget its beauty, until I saw people pulling over, taking out their cameras. It never took much to snap back into realization, usually simply by looking up.
The Cathedral is one test to whether or not people actually know both cities or just one. (Oh, the Basilica? NO.) The Cathedral more beautiful than the Basilica, what with the way it butts right up into the neighborhood, the walls barely yards from the street. It stands alone instead of trying to compete with a skyline, and its dome nicely compliments that of the State Capitol. But for me, the Cathedral was a beacon that signaled home, from various hillsides of the city. Seeing it from afar was a comfort, and approaching it at sunset was lovely.
St. Paul, I no longer live in you but I promise I’ll visit often for both work and play.
