1 note
Potatoes, onions, zucchini, sauteed in olive oil with balsamic and parmesan thrown on near the end.
My fridge has been on the fritz for about a week now. At first it was merely warmer than usual (my fudgesicles regressed to mush, OH, THE TRAGEDY), but now it is literally blowing hot air. Unfortunately, the holiday weekend and the fact that I have a smaller than normal apartment refrigerator has complicated the replacement process, though it looks like I will be getting a new one tomorrow.
I keep thinking of that NYTimes article about environmentalists giving up their fridge. Oh sure, it sounded really ambitious and romantic when you read it last winter, as you stopped by your wonderful refrigerator to get a nice cold glass of water from your Brita pitcher. But trust me, having been through this, I do not recommend it. MAYBE if you are vegan, but even then, certain fruits and veggies will last way longer in a colder environment. And it’s true - there’s a lot of stuff in the fridge that doesn’t really need to be in there. But is that really worth having to run to the corner store and pay $1.50 for two cups of milk so I don’t poison my friends while making quiche?
I miss milk. I miss yogurt. I miss ice cubes. I got really sad when I threw out a mushy tube of goat cheese that would have gone perfect with my salad. I really want to buy some ice cream. This new fridge can’t come soon enough.
