What's Wrong With #FirstWorldProblems

“All the silly stuff of life doesn’t disappear just because you’re black and live in a poorer country. People in the richer nations need a more robust sense of the lives being lived in the darker nations. Here’s a First World problem: the inability to see that others are as fully complex and as keen on technology and pleasure as you are.”
This hashtag has always irked me too, mostly because when I tried to think of what a “third world problem” might be, many seemed to apply to the first world too, such as hunger and vast inequality. But anyway, like many things I have wanted to address but didn’t know quite how, it’s been done in a much more insightful way here.
