No Child Left Behind is still ineffective, and... →
(via fightwithknives)
This article doesn’t really get into the currently popular argument that the problem with schools is ineffective teachers, so I am happy for that.
But it still highlights the persistent trend of NCLB not fully helping the students it is designed to help. I think education is a lot like weight loss - if there were an easy way for people to lose weight and maintain that...
Minneapolis Tumblr Meetup →
I sort of abhor reblogging, therefore I am just linking and sadly noting that this is the third thing I have going on at that time and therefore will probably not attend.

lowertown depot.
My bike commute to work is still pretty new, and I keep noticing little things along the way. As Kellogg winds and goes up and up and then turns into 3rd street, I go over a bridge. Only, it is not a romantic bridge over sparkling water, it is a bridge over industrial areas and train tracks.
The other day, I looked down and saw this building, making a mental note to check it out further.
So...

In defense of Twitter →
I’ve been thinking a lot about twitter lately, and how it seems like the media sometimes just makes it into a much bigger thing than it is. Sure, Ashton and Oprah can get thousands/millions of followers and maybe this is significant, but what of the average twitterer? We’re just kind of hanging out, sharing some short ideas, and that’s it. It’s not earth shattering most of...
I would like a milkman.
Yes, a milkman. I would like milk delivered to my door on a regular basis. I would like milk in glass reusable bottles. Why? Because it’s quaint, old-fashioned, and romantic. It’s so old-fashioned that my milkman will indeed be a milkman and not a milk lady or a milk person. No, my milkman will not be tied down to gender-neutral nomenclature. In keeping with my idyllic milkman fantasy,...

housekeeping.
After many trials of installing what felt like EVERY non-bloated tumblr theme in existence and taking notes (still on post-its on the computer), I have finally decided on one and am pretty happy with it for now. Also, comments are enabled. Now I just need a more interesting title than my name with additional vowels…
I saw this via Said the Gramophone over a year ago, and yet this little video still sticks in my head. Bikes, food, wine, beer, friends, fireworks. Have a good week.

(hehe, out of context quotes!)
help me out, tumblettes.
I want a theme with the following attributes:
Clean and simple.
Has comments.
Does not show who I am following.
I can change certain things, like link and text colors.
It would be nice if the side bar/ bio area didn’t move when scrolling down.
Has search feature.
Has a working place to click that brings you home.
A sans-serif font.
I’ve been trying out a bunch of them and I...
My definitive guide to biking in a skirt.
Hello bikers, fans of bikes, and fans of girls on bikes, spring is here! Now is the time to get out your wheels - and since I have biked to work the past two days in a skirt or a dress, I am officially an expert on biking in skirts. Thus, here is my official guide to skirt biking!
First, let’s talk about the why. The short answer is that as someone who really enjoys skirts and dresses,...

Kite flying and wind chimes in celebration of Earth Day, this Sunday at Harriet Island!
Kites provided. Please don’t bring your own kite. Perfect! I don’t have one.
I'm gonna learn these kids real good.
Me: I biked to school today.
Student: Did you fall?
Me: Uhhh, no...
Student: Girls don't ride bikes!
Me: Well, I rode my bike.
Student: But girl teachers don't ride bikes! Ms. [redacted] doesn't! Ms. [redacted] didn't!
(I don't remember what I actually said here, I think I started asking some girls if they rode bikes and one responded, "No, because I live in an apartment..." What? So do I!)

swim, swam, swum.
I used to be a swimmer. No, not in high school. Not even in middle school. That’s right, I was a hard core elementary school swimmer on my local YMCA team. And not a bad one, either. In 3rd grade my relay team got first place at the state meet, in the giant University of Minnesota swimming pool. Personally, I got 4th place in the 25m freestyle. When the Barcelona Olympics happened in 1992,...

Oh, what to do with my little blog...
In keeping with my rule of not posting long-winded things on tumblr, I will direct you to this self-link where I very long-windedly question the point of having both a blog and a tumblr when the tumblr seems much more successful.
And since I have not used this feature yet, what say you, sweet followers? Should I do tumblr only? Or should I strive to have as MANY BLOGS AS POSSIBLE?
